Here's what some volunteers have to say!
Our volunteers are everything. Find out how to volunteer at GLO.
Amy
I decided to volunteer at GLO because I had never even heard of a farm sanctuary before but as soon as I did, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I love the idea of giving these animals a peaceful and happy life for as long as they live. I love how the animals come right up to me when I’m working – just to see what I’m doing and to say, “hi”. Every animal is perfect but the sheep are such characters – they just want to be petted and loved.

I was introduced to GLO when I started coming up to visit my two favourite people in 2019 and continued as a volunteer once I met the amazing residents. I just had to be a part of THAT. There’s a magical combination of great people, whimsical residents and a beautiful setting that make it all so special. All the residents are wonderful but Calvin is very special to me. We have had our ups and downs, and he makes me work extra hard for his love, but am determined to give him belly rubs again one day!

I started volunteering at GLO during January 2021 with my roommate Amy. I was vegetarian for 8 years and I’ve been vegan for 2 years now. I’ve always loved animals and I want to become a vet someday, owning my own animal sanctuary. GLO seemed like the perfect match for me because it has people working there who see animals and love them the way I do, and who choose to live lifestyles free of animal exploitation and abuse. What I like best about GLO is that I’m able to see the result of what loving on other species and treating them as equals really looks like.

I started volunteering at GLO in February 2021 after seeing Ali talk about the sanctuary in the Animal Justice Academy. I love all the people (human and nonhuman) at GLO but Wayne, Bella, and Kevin Spots are my very special friends. Vegan since 2012, I’m was formerly an intern at Farm Sanctuary.

I started volunteering with GLO in May 2020 as the volunteer coordinator responible for talking with prospective volunteers as well as scheduling orientations and training. I chose to volunteer with GLO after visiting and meeting Ali. It was then that I realized I needed to be involved with sanctuary life for my personal fulfilment and happiness. GLO is my heaven on earth - it is my happy place- a place where as I enter my aches my pains and worries disappear.

I started volunteering with GLO in June 2020 because I wanted to give back to a cause that meant a lot to me. My friend referred me to GLO and it’s the BEST referral I’ve ever received! It feels good to give back and support the owner of the sanctuary who has so selflessly dedicated her life to providing the animals a beautiful and safe forever home.

I stared volunteering with GLO in June of 2021. I was drawn to Glo's unapologetically vegan stance - this was very important to me. Being part of GLO lets me spend time with other like-minded individuals. During my shifts I get to do everything for the animals from muck out stalls to helping with dinner and, of course, providing much-needed belly rubs and head scratches! It’s wonderful to have the chance to see what these animals are like when they’re allowed the space and freedom to just “be”.

Knowing that I wanted to help care for farmed animals, I started volunteering at GLO in November of 2020. It has been an incredible experience being able to connect with such vulnerable beings who are finally being given the happy and love-filled life that they deserve because of GLO. During my shifts I get to help with the feeding and cleaning up after the animals but there’s always time for cuddles and belly rubs, too!
Laura
I began volunteering at GLO in July 2021 because I am a huge animal lover and wanted to spend my days off from work helping make sure that the animals at GLO can live their best lives. I love being surrounded by the residents at GLO and the people who share the same love of animals as me. I enjoy working the morning volunteer shift where my tasks including poop pick up, mucking out the stalls, running wheel barrels and best of all spending time with the animals.

I love GLO because they strive to be the absolute best place for farmed animals. I started volunteering in June 2020 so I could help care for the animals and get some exercise outdoors cleaning the barn, mucking the paddocks and helping out with odd jobs wherever I’m needed. As a vegan and animal lover, it’s great spending time with like-minded people at the sanctuary. Don’t tell the others, but I have a special sweet spot for Pixie!

I started volunteering at GLO in February of 2021. I love that GLO is a vegan sanctuary because it helps me find peace and be amongst people who align their lifestyle with their ethics. Of course, it’s all about the animals! Connecting with them on such a fundamental level and helping to care for them and serve them is amazing. And, while I love them ALL, the sheep just melt my heart with their goofy grace and sweet innocence. I lead a crazy life as a flight attendant so I am very thankful to GLO for helping me feel grounded.
Lend a Helping Hand (or Two)
It takes a lot of elbow grease to keep a farm running, and our friends living their best life! Volunteering is a great way to interact with the animals and learn about their care.

Some standard chores that happen at work visits include:
- mucking stalls
